Gilbert Santoyo
Gilbert Santoyo was born Jan. 19, 1940. He passed away on May 4, 2014, in Reno. He was born to Emilio Santoyo and Estelle Banter in St. Louis, Miss.

He moved to Battle Mountain in 1968 from Denio. He loved Nevada; it was his home. Gilbert went to work for Duval/Battle Mountain Gold Mine. He was there for 25 years. Then he worked at the Rossie Mine from 1993-1996, then Gilbert retired in December of 1996.

Gilbert coached Little League Baseball for many years and he was a member of the Lions Club. He was a great husband, caring father, easy going person and he got along with people because of his personality.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, of 33 years, a son Antonio G. Santoyo, a daughter Shawna Santoyo-Wilkins, stepson Worth Nelson (Diana), stepdaughters Margaret Lane (Walter), Dorthy Bowyer (Marty), Deborah Smith (Darrel) and Katheryn Nolen (Russ), many grand kids, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Gilbert is preceded in death by his father and mother, six brothers and five sisters.

No service will be held. He would like everybody to remember him for the person he was.

"God saw that he was very tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around him and whispered come with me with tearful eyes we watched and saw him fade away, although we love him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best."
