Jean Kingman
Jean Kingman
Jean Kingman, of Winnemucca, passed at home on June 23rd. She was 86.

She was born Mar. 16, 1928 in Pocatello, to Frank Leslie Hammon and Dorthea Elizabeth "Libby" Jardine. She grew up with five siblings in Idaho, where her father was director of weights and measures. She took an RN degree from the Idaho Falls School of Nursing, and a post-graduate certificate in surgical technique at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore.

Jean worked as an RN for 44 years, initially in Twin Falls, Portland and later San Francisco. Together with her husband Robert, daughter Caroline, and son Henry, she moved to Winnemucca in 1968. After that, she worked as surgery and central supply supervisor at Humboldt General before retiring in 1992.

Jean lost her husband in 1993 after 35 years together. Bob was a fifth-grade school teacher. She and Bob built two houses together by hand, and enriched one another immeasurably through the years.

Jean followed politics closely. She read widely, including three books during her last week of life. She will be remembered for her gentle, kind nature, sage wit, and level head. She is survived by her children, grandson Ezra, and sisters Troy, LaVora, and Lola.

Services will be held at noon at Saturday, at Sonoma Funeral Home, followed by burial at Paradise Valley.
