Ronald D. Kiel
Ronald D. Kiel, 85, passed away on March 25, 2014 at his home in Lovelock. He was born in Oelwein, Iowa to Eldoris Lavina Miller and Orville Chester Kiel. He later grew up in Hood River, Ore. With his mother Doris and step-father Leroy Brant.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and was Honorably Discharged in 1948. Also, in 1948 he married Yvonne G. Guire and had three children, David, Rusty and Bonnie.

He worked as a bulldozer operator (Cat Skinner) at the Tungsten Mine prior to completing his training as a FAA Air Traffic Controller/Weatherman. He also sold insurance to supplement his income. After retiring from FAA after 30 years of service he opened RV Trailer Sales and Service and also served as County Commissioner. As an avid pilot with a love for all things involving airplanes, he volunteered as a Search and Rescue Pilot and had wonderful stories of the times he spent in the air.

He was also a Master Mason belonging to Humboldt Lodge #27 for the last 50 years.

One of the things he was most passionate about was our Senior Center. The last day he spent on this earth he spent his lunch with some of the most important people to him, all of his friends at the Senior Center. He never wanted to miss a day of going there. Thank you all for being in his life.

He is survived by his friend and wonderful companion, Dru McKinnon. His sons David (Vanessa) Kiel, Russell Kiel and daughter Bonnie (David) Skoglie. Raul Dominguez (Abi), who dad valued as a family member. Six grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A sister, Dorothy Culbertson, brothers, Dick (Rosie) Brant and Virgil (Jan) Brant, many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous lifelong friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled to be held at the Catholic Hall, 685 11th Street, April 5th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, any donations made to the Pershing County Senior Center will be greatly appreciated. The mailing address for the Center is P.O. Box 838, Lovelock, NV 89419.
