    ELKO —Jeffrey Knox and Jacob Knox, of Winnemucca, were named to the dean’s list at Great Basin College in Elko for the 2014 fall term. To qualify, students must achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term.

    The Battle Mountain Archery Club is hosting a fun shoot on Saturday, June 27, at Cottonwood Canyon Camp grounds starting at 7 a.m. Head south of Austin and watch for the orange “archery shoot” sign to the right of the road. There will be beverages for sale during the event. You don’t have to be a member to come join the fun but please bring your own equipment.

    The city will be aerial spraying in the evening for mosquito control, depending on the weather conditions. This notice shall be in effect through June 27.

    The spraying will cover the area from Hayes Dam (above Reinhart Lane) to McDonald’s restaurant.

    The insecticide to be used is Dibrom. It is advised that pet food and water be covered or brought inside if possible. Vehicles should also be covered and/or washed off after contact with the pesticide.

    Bee keepers in the area should take the appropriate precautions to protect their bees and hives.
