Grad in the news: Lyssa M. Springer

CARSON CITY - The family of Lyssa M. Springer is pleased to announce her graduation from Western Nevada College. She has obtained summa cum laude honors in the degrees of Associate of Applied Science in Deaf Studies and Associate of Arts in Deaf Studies. She has also earned a Certificate in American Sign Language. Lyssa was named to the 2012-2013 Dean's List for two consecutive semesters with 3.95 GPA.
The ceremony took place at 11 a.m. on May 19 at the Pony Express Pavilion located at 1111 E. William St. in Carson City.
While attending Lovelock Elementary School, Lyssa joined the Sign Language Club. She excelled in it and discovered a passion for the field. She found her niche in college studying American Sign Language. Lyssa has decided on a career in interpreting ASL, beginning in the educational system, prior to becoming nationally certified.
Lyssa is continuing her education at Nevada (Reno), majoring in Linguistics with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies, full-time, while being steadily employed.
She graduated from Pershing County High School in 2010.
"A special shout out to all my family, friends, teachers, and everyone who helped and supported me on my journey. Thank you," she said.
