Students to get tested
Students in the third through the eighth grade will be given the Nevada Criterion Referenced Test (CRT) for math and reading during the week of April 29.
A criterion-referenced test (CRT) measures what the student can do and what he/she knows, not how this student compares with others across the nation.
For example, if you pass the minimum requirements for a driver's license you receive a license to drive. This would illustrate a criterion-referenced test. The key is mastery or no mastery of certain skills. It is possible for all kids to pass a CRT test and is used as a basis for determining whether we make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
There are several things parents can do during testing week to insure your child's best performance: 1. Stress the importance of attending school on testing days. (Data show make-up scores are lower.) 2. Make sure your child goes to bed at a proper time. 3. Eating good meals is important, especially breakfast. 4. Discuss the importance of these tests with your child. It is a part of their permanent records. 5. Eliminate as much stress as possible. A happy child will have a good testing attitude. 6. Have your child wear comfortable clothing for testing. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your school administrator.
