Gun show & Flea Market Canceled
The Gun Show/Flea Market planned for Aug. 30 and 31 at the Battle Mountain Civic Center has been cancelled. The new dates have not been determined as of yet. If you have any questions please call the Civic Center at (775) 635-1112.
Kingston Outdoor Market
Kingston Parks Dept will be putting on a fundraiser for the parks. An outdoor market will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kingston Orchards. Lots of vendors, arts and crafts, ice cream, barbecue, drinks, games and a raffle for barbecue. Vendor space is available. Contact Velinda Ward (775) 964-1034.
Craft Show at The Cook House Museum
There will be a craft show Nov. 1-2 at the Cook House Museum. It will be open 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2. Vendors are needed. Organizers request handmade items only. Contact Salle at 635-2450, Coxie at 635-2582 or the Cook House Museum at 635-8584.
Austin Wine Walk
Why Cry & Run when you can Wine & Walk! The Prospectors Dream wine walk and sunset dinner will be held on Sept. 14. Wine walk starts at 2 p.m. with the dinner at Stokes Castle to follow at 5 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 ($15 for wine walk & $10 for dinner); tickets purchased the day of the event are $30. Pre-sale tickets available at the Austin Chamber office and will also be available the day of the event. Eliza Pierce holding Open House Aug. 22
Eliza Pierce Elementary School is having an Open House/Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. This is for all early childhood, developmental kindergarten and kindergarten students and their parents. Come and meet your teacher, explore your classroom and ask any questions you may have about this upcoming school year.
Preschool screenings going on now
The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (Community Health) began its preschool/daycare screenings this week and will continue through the start of school. Call ahead at (775) 635-2386 or stop by 150 Palmer St. to schedule an appointment. The new hours for the clinic will start Sept. 1 and are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Free flu shots Sept. 28
The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (Community Health) will be offering free flu vaccines via drive thru on Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to noon behind the Battle Mountain Civic Center. Volunteers are needed. Call (775) 635-2386 with any questions. The Battle Mountain General Hospital Health Fair will be happening that same day from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the civic center.
4-H fair project sheets need to be signed
All 4-H youth who plan to put static entries (projects) in the Lander County Fair must bring them to the 4-H office to have their project sheets signed. Please call your 4-H/Youth Coordinator Tonya McKenzie at (775) 635-5565 or stop by the extension office with any questions.
Basque Summer Picnic
The Basque Summer Picnic will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, at the Lions Park from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. It is Basque potluck style

BMJHS registration and open house

Lander County Historical Society meeting change
Due to scheduling conflicts the Lander County Historical Society meeting for August will be held at 7 p.m. at the Battle Mountain museum on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Christ Lutheran Preschool openings

Lots of 4-H activities going on
Crochet is every second and fourth Tuesday of every month ages 5 and up from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Shooting sports is every first and third Tuesday of every month, ages 9 and up at the gun range at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Legos Robotics is every second and fourth Thursday of every month ages 5 and up from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Crochet and Legos are held at the Extension Office. 4-H will also be presenting Story Time at the Battle Mountain Library starting July 19 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. It will be every Friday after that at the same time through summer months. The Gospel Project Bible study
The Fellowship Baptist Mission began a new Bible study last month and will continue every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. The Gospel Project is a three-year study from Genesis through Revelation.
