First Baptist Church offers Services
The First Baptist Church would like to announce services and reach out to families and the youth of our community. Sunday services began at 10:45 a.m. and Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. Youth group will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. All are welcome! First Baptist Church is located on the corner of 7th and Weaver. A Frontier Community Coalition Local Community Committee (LCC) will be held on Thurs., Sept. 19 at the Owl Club in Battle Mountain at 12:30 p.m. The community is invited to attend. Christ Lutheran Preschool yard sale fundraiser
Christ Lutheran Preschool located at 55 Bastian Road (across from the BLM building) will be having its fall yard sale fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 20 (parking lot sales open at 2:30 p.m. and inside sales open at 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 21 (7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m). Proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward operational expenses of the preschool and tuition assistance. Yard sale donations from the community are very much appreciated. Acceptable donations include furniture, working appliances, other household furnishings, baby furniture and equipment (except car seats), books, toys, and clothing. The preschool is now accepting small items and larger items can be dropped off beginning Monday, September 16th. Hunter education class Sept. 23 - 24
A Hunter Safety Education class will be conducted in Battle Mountain. The opportunity to obtain your certification will on Monday and Tuesday evenings, Sept. 23 and 24. Classes will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each evening. All classes will be at the Civic Center in Battle Mountain. Cost of the class is $5 and is due at the door. Both classes must be attended. Pre-registration is required; seating is limited.
A self-study work book must be completed prior to the beginning of class and is available at the Cooperative Extension Office at 815 North 2nd street (635-5565).
Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1960, is required to provide proof of Hunter Education in order to purchase a Nevada hunting license. You must pre-register by calling (775) 635-5565 or going on-line to http://ndow.org/ and following the hunter education links to Lander County.
8th Annual DV Fun
The Lander County Committee Against Domestic Violence will be hosting their annual Fun Run/Walk on Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. Pr-registration can be done at the Lander County Juvenile Department or the Family Resource Center. Registration is $5 for students, $10 for individuals, $25 family or business (more than five people will be $8 each). Businesses need to register by Sept. 27. You will receive breakfast, a T-shirt and a goodie bag. Check in at 8:30 a.m. at the Elquist Park in Battle Mountain on the day of the event.
Craft Show at The Cook House Museum

Austin Wine Walk
Why Cry & Run when you can Wine & Walk! The Prospectors Dream wine walk and sunset dinner will be held on Sept. 14. Wine walk starts at 2 p.m. with the dinner at Stokes Castle to follow at 5 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 ($15 for wine walk & $10 for dinner), tickets purchased the day of the event are $30. Pre-sale tickets available at the Austin Chamber office and will also be available the day of the event. Free flu shots Sept. 28
The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (Community Health) will be offering free flu vaccines via drive thru on Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to noon behind the Battle Mountain Civic Center. Volunteers are needed. Call (775) 635-2386 with any questions. The Battle Mountain General Hospital Health Fair will be happening that same day from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the civic center.
4-H fair project sheets need to be signed
All 4-H youth who plan to put static entries (projects) in the Lander County Fair must bring them to the 4-H office to have their project sheets signed. Please call your 4-H/Youth Coordinator Tonya McKenzie at (775) 635-5565 or stop by the extension office with any questions.

The Gospel Project Bible study
The Fellowship Baptist Mission began a new Bible study last month and will continue every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. The Gospel Project is a three-year study from Genesis through Revelation. The study teaches how the Gospel is reflected throughout the whole Bible. There are classes for all ages, from birth to adult. For more information, contact Bob at (775) 635-3470.
Health fair Sept. 28 at the civic center
Battle Mountain General Hospital is gearing up for its annual health fair to be held Sept. 28 at the Battle Mountain Civic Center from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
There will be a variety of booths that will include life coaching, health information, healthy green smoothies, hospice care, mental health, bloodwork, medical exams, dental check-ups and more. Discounted lab tests will be available and health information on all kinds of issues will be handed out.
