WINNEMUCCA - One of California's most acclaimed oldies bands will return to Winnemucca this August to headline "Fifties Fever" 2013.

"Sharon & the Chevelles," a four-man tribute to the '50s and '60s, will be the featured talent during Winnemucca's annual classic car celebration, set for Friday, Aug. 2, through Sunday, Aug. 4.

Fifties Fever originated as the Winnemucca branch of Reno's hugely successful Hot August Nights. Fourteen years ago, local organizers split from Hot August Nights to form Fifties Fever-and Winnemucca's offering hasn't skipped a beat in attendance, imagination or fun.

The Fifties Fever weekend will include everything from great show 'n' shines to kid contests, street drags, a craft fair, poker run, and a free play giveaway from the Model T Resort Casino.

On Sunday, Sharon & the Chevelles will headline the afternoon activities planned for Nixon Park during a free concert from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The band promises "more fun than you've had since they put the bop in the bop-shoo-bop" as they feature favorite songs from Elvis, Brenda Lee, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, the Beatles, Dion, Lesley Gore, the Shirelles, and more.

The band includes Sharon Wyner on lead vocals and keyboards; Nat Wyner on vocals, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar; Jeff Sadie on guitar and vocals; and Jerry Stollman on drums and vocals.

Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Darrel Field said local audiences can expect a very fun and very energetic show Sunday.

"Everyone knows and loves these songs," he said. "With this band's high energy and fun show, they will totally win the audience over."

The Sharon & the Chevelles performance is free to the public. For more information or for a full schedule of the weekend's events, log on to or contact the Winnemucca Convention Center and Visitors Authority at (775) 623-5071, ext. 102 or toll-free at (800) 962-2638.
