Community Garden Kick-off Party
Fun time for all! At the Community Garden! May 10 3 - 6 p.m., come on over to the Garden Kick-Off Party! Live music, belly dance performance, taekwondo demo, watermelon eating contest, face painting and activity booths for kids, tour the garden or sign up for your own plot. LaRena Smith Bengoa Run, Ride or Walk for the Cure
10 a.m. - Join the 12th annual LaRena Smith Bengoa Run, Ride or Walk for the Cure. LaRena Smith Bengoa was a Humboldt County school teacher who lost her battle with breast cancer on May 1, 2001. The local cancer support organization that bears her name distributes funds to victims of cancer in Winnemucca and Battle Mountain. The race will begin at 10 a.m. at French Ford Middle School in Winnemucca. Registration and packet pickup will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Participants may choose to walk, run or ride 1-, 3- and 5-mile courses. All ages are welcome. Registration fees are $25 for adults and phantom racers, $20 for senior citizens and team members, and $10 for children under 10. All participants receive a free t-shirt and goodie bag. Letter Carriers' Food Drive
The 22nd annual Letter Carriers' Food Drive is Saturday, May 10. Postal customers are asked to place a bag of nonperishable food by their mailbox before their letter carrier comes by on Saturday, May 10. They will pick it up and deliver it to a food-distribution charity within Humboldt County.
Library Book Club
Humboldt County Library Book Club meets the second Tuesday, May 13, at 7pm in the Nevada Room of the library. All readers welcome. May's selection is "Margot" by Jillian Cantor. This is an interesting twist on 'what-if' Anne Frank's sister Margot had survived Bergen-Belsen, taken a new ID and moved to the United States. A sensitive, well-designed read.
Alzheimer's Support Group
Winnemucca Alzheimer's Support Group meets the second Wednesday, May 14, at noon at Humboldt General Hospital in the Sarah Winnemucca room across from Admitting. All caregivers and guests welcome to share lunch and conversation.
Voter registration closes
Notice is hereby given that voter registration for the June 10, 2014 Primary Election will close on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Please contact the Humboldt County Clerk's Office at (775) 623-6343 or refer to the Clerk's Election Information posted at www.hcnv.us/clerk/clerk.htm for the specific requirements including residency time frames to register to vote for the upcoming election.

Fallon Naval Sea Cadets
Fallon Naval Sea Cadets is a non- profit youth program designed to educate youth from ages 11-17 about the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Education includes military bearing, marching, physical training, courtesy, responsibility, and much more. Many opportunities are available for advanced training. Meetings are one weekend a month at the Naval Air Station in Fallon. Volunteers, both ex-military and civilian are needed for instructors and chaperones. Free resistance exercise class
Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. a resistance exercise class is held at the Humboldt County Senior Center. Resistance exercise is a program designed for seniors proven to increase balance and strength using weights. There is no beginning or advanced level. All equipment including the weights is provided.
