Adopt a Senior in May

May is Older Americans Month. Adopt a Senior at the Pershing County Senior Center 630 Western Ave. The Adopt a Senior program is a great way to show you care. A donation of $2.50 per meal will provide a special person a hot nutritious meal or you can donate a month's worth of meals for $50. Contact the Senior Center 273-2291 for more information.  Meals for older adults (age 60+) are provided at no cost to the individual, your donation helps to offset the cost of the meals.

Legion Scholarship Forms Available

American Legion Post #6 scholarship applications are now available for area high school seniors.  Applications can be picked up from the Pershing High School guidance counselor. Completed applications must be submitted to the American Legion Post #6 at the address below, prior to May 13, 2013. Open House at Grass Valley Community Center

7 a.m. - 10 a.m. - Grass Valley Community Center Open House is planned for Saturday, May 11 at the new center located at 13295 Grass Valley Road.  Hot air balloon rides for those interested.  Town Hall meeting from 10 a.m. - Noon with the three County Commissioners, Darin Bloyed, Carol Shank and Pat Irwin.  A noon the Grass Valley Fire Department is providing BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs.  There also will be a bounce house for children attending.  For further information you may call Annette Stripe, (775) 623-5883.



May 12

Pershing County Junior Livestock Show and Sale

You are invited to the 70th annual 4-H and FFA Livestock Show & Sale at the 4-H building. Due to NJLS, the Show & Sale will be Sunday, Mother's Day. The show starts at 9 a.m. with 29 members showing swine, goats, beef and sheep. The auction starts at 1 p.m. with 19 members selling beef, goat, swine and then sheep followed by a dessert auction. May 26

79th I.D.E.S. Portuguese Festa

Procession will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, from the Lovelock Depot and feature Wooden Carts pulled by teams of Oxen. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Dinner will be at the Community Center at Noon followed by an auction of baked goods and handmade items. The public is invited. For more information call 273-2566 or 273-2510.



May 27

Memorial Day Ceremonies

Monday, May 27 Memorial Day ceremonies will be conducted by the American Legion Post #6 and our local Boy Scout Troop in front of the Pershing County Courthouse.  All residents are invited to commemorate those you have given the ultimate sacrifice for the service of their country. Ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m.  Come join the local veterans and help carry the American Flag down Main Street to be raised at the entrance of town.



July 14-20

4-H Camp

4-H camp is open to all youth between the ages of 9 and 13 4-H age (your age in Jan. 2013).  They spend a week at the 4-H Camp at Lake Tahoe making new friends, enjoying the great outdoors, participating in fun activities and the food is great.  Applications are available at the Pershing County Extension Office, 810 Sixth Street.  The fee is $230 until June 1, ($280 after June 1). Call 273-2923 for more information.

Lovelock Community Food Bank is serving at 655 Cornell starting at 3:30 p.m. and will close at the discretion of the Food Bank. Everyone can receive free bread and dairy products, but a voucher will be needed in order to receive food. This can be obtained at the county clerk's office.

Lovelock Speedway meeting

November - March, general meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 p.m. April - October general meetings held the Thursday prior to each scheduled race. Lovelock Speedway is seeking volunteers for various positions.
