79th I.D.E.S. Portuguese Festa

Procession will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 26 from the Lovelock Depot and feature Wooden Carts pulled by teams of Oxen. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Dinner will be at the Community Center at Noon followed by an auction of baked goods and handmade items. The public is invited. For more information call 273-2566 or 273-2510.



May 27

Memorial Day Events

9 a.m. - To honor fallen veterans, the public is invited to a Memorial Day ceremony on the steps of the Pershing County Courthouse. There will be guest speakers followed by a flag procession. Veterans and volunteers will unfold and carry a 20' x 30' American flag from the courthouse along Main Street to Lovelock's 100-foot flagpole near the I-80 freeway where it will be flown at half mast. Following the ceremony, there will be a pancake breakfast courtesy of volunteer firefighters at the Lovelock fire house. Old flags in need of proper disposal may be brought to the fire house for a flag retirement ceremony.

Senior van to Reno

The Pershing County Senior Center van will travel to Reno. The van leaves the center at 7:30 a.m. and arrives in Reno at 10 a.m.; it leaves by 2 p.m. Please schedule your appointments between those hours. Suggested donation for those 60 and above is $10; required fee for those under 60 years is $15 round trip. Please RSVP for a ride by calling 273-2291.

Family game night

5:30 - 7:30 p.m. - Bethel Baptist Church will be hosting a Family Game Night. We will host this every other Friday night throughout the summer. We have over 25 different board and card games for the whole family to enjoy. The games are geared for school-aged children but we do have a nursery on sight if you have little ones and you don't have a babysitter. Please use the 9th street entrance with "880" on the storm door to attend Family Game Night. Bethel Baptist Church is located on the corner of Franklin Avenue and 9th Street. Kids, don't forget to bring your parents!

Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank

The Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank currently has donated food available for those in need. Pastor D.W. Hutson asks that you call ahead to pick up the items from the church, located at 16500 state Route 400 in Unionville. The church accepts food and clothing donations to give away to those in need. Fallon Naval Sea Cadets

Fallon Naval Sea Cadets is a non-profit youth program designed to educate youth from ages 11-17 about the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Education includes military bearing, marching, physical training, courtesy, responsibility and much more. Many opportunities are available for advanced training. Meetings are one weekend a month at the Naval Air Station in Fallon. Volunteers, both ex-military and civilian, are needed for instructors and chaperones. For information on

Lovelock Community Food Bank is serving at 655 Cornell starting at 3:30 p.m. and will close at the discretion of the Food Bank. Everyone can receive free bread and dairy products, but a voucher will be needed in order to receive food. This can be obtained at the county clerk's office.

Lovelock Speedway meeting

November - March, general meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 p.m. April - October general meetings held the Thursday prior to each scheduled race. Lovelock Speedway is seeking volunteers for various positions.
