Summer Reading Program underway

The Summer Reading Program is a free six week program held on Mondays at the Pershing County Library. Each one hour session will include a craft project, incentives and a snack. The theme this year is Dig into Reading. The Summer Reading Program is designed for independent readers ages 7 and older to encourage leisure reading during the summer months. Special Masses at St. John's Catholic Church

Come to a special Mass on June 21 6:30 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church to honoring Father Edgar's  5th anniversary  of his ordination as a priest. On June 24, the church will celebrate the birth of St. John the Baptist the patron saint of the church with a special mass at 6:30 p.m.

Senior van to Reno

The Pershing County Senior Center van will travel to Reno. The van leaves the center at 7:30 a.m. and arrives in Reno at 10 a.m.; it leaves by 2 p.m. Please schedule your appointments between those hours. Suggested donation for those 60 and above is $10; required fee for those under 60 years is $15 round trip. Please RSVP for a ride by calling 273-2291.

Frontier Community Coalition Free Video Presentation

A free prevention-based video presentation will be held at the FCC office at 1475 Cornell Ave., Ste. 500 from noon-1:30 p.m. The presentation is free to the community - but seating is limited. Please call before Tues. to reserve your seat. This presentation is funded in part by the state Substance Abuse and Prevention Treatment Agency (SAPTA) and Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL). Beverage Server Training

A free Responsible Beverage Server Training class will be held at the FCC office at 1475 Cornell Ave., Ste. 500 from 10 a.m. - noon. The training is free for sellers and/or servers of alcoholic beverages and is funded in part by the state Substance Abuse and Prevention Treatment Agency (SAPTA) and Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL). Kiddie Parade

"American Dreams" is the theme for this year's 4th of July Kiddie Parade sponsored by the Pershing County Cattlewomen. The parade is open to all children 12 years old and under. All participants please meet to register for the parade at the Lovelock Depot on Thursday, July 4th at 9:40 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m.  Please, nothing bigger than a "child's red wagon" or a small bike will be allowed in the parade.  No live animals are allowed in the parade, for example, no cats, dogs, or ponies. 4-H Camp

4-H camp is open to all youth between the ages of 9 and 13 4-H age (your age in Jan. 2013).  They spend a week at the 4-H Camp at Lake Tahoe making new friends, enjoying the great outdoors, participating in fun activities and the food is great.  Applications are available at the Pershing County Extension Office, 810 Sixth Street.  The fee is $230 until June 1, ($280 after June 1). Call 273-2923 for more information.

Pershing County Library

The Pershing County Library is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Story hour Tuesdays with preschoolers (older than 3) from 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. The library is located at 1125 Central Ave. For more information call 273-2216.

Food bank

Lovelock Community Food Bank is serving at 655 Cornell starting at 3:30 p.m. and will close at the discretion of the Food Bank. Everyone can receive free bread and dairy products, but a voucher will be needed in order to receive food. This can be obtained at the county clerk's office.

Lovelock Speedway meeting

November - March, general meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 p.m. April - October general meetings held the Thursday prior to each scheduled race. Lovelock Speedway is seeking volunteers for various positions. Free craft classes for kids

Each Friday - Classes formally at Creekside Variety are now being held in the Community Center across from the hospital.
