Summer Reading Program underway

The Summer Reading Program is a free six week program held on Mondays at the Pershing County Library. Each one hour session will include a craft project, incentives and a snack. The theme this year is Dig into Reading. The Summer Reading Program is designed for independent readers ages 7 and older to encourage leisure reading during the summer months. Frontier Community Coalition Free Video Presentation

A free prevention-based video presentation will be held at the FCC office at 1475 Cornell Ave., Ste. 500 from noon-1:30 p.m. The presentation is free to the community - but seating is limited. Please call before Tues. to reserve your seat. This presentation is funded in part by the state Substance Abuse and Prevention Treatment Agency (SAPTA) and Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL). Beverage Server Training

A free Responsible Beverage Server Training class will be held at the FCC office at 1475 Cornell Ave., Ste. 500 from 10 a.m. - noon. The training is free for sellers and/or servers of alcoholic beverages and is funded in part by the state Substance Abuse and Prevention Treatment Agency (SAPTA) and Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL). Kiddie Parade

"American Dreams" is the theme for this year's 4th of July Kiddie Parade sponsored by the Pershing County Cattlewomen. The parade is open to all children 12 years old and under. All participants please meet to register for the parade at the Lovelock Depot on Thursday, July 4th at 9:40 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m.  Please, nothing bigger than a "child's red wagon" or a small bike will be allowed in the parade.  No live animals are allowed in the parade, for example, no cats, dogs, or ponies. Veterans Outreach

A  Rural Veterans Service Officer (RVSO)  will be in Lovelock July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Pershing County Community Center. Veterans, military personnel and family members will be able to meet with a representative of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) to learn about benefits and services they may be eligible for but unaware of. Appointments are encouraged, as many outreach events have been filling up.  Walk-in appointments are welcome, but will be seen if time permits. To schedule an advanced appointment, contact Pamela (775) 688-1653 ext. 6.   Veterans are advised to bring a copy of their DD-214 discharge document and/or current VA paperwork.   If the claim involves dependents, bring birth certificates, current and prior marriage certificates, divorce decrees, and social security numbers.

Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank

The Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank currently has donated food available for those in need. Pastor D.W. Hutson asks that you call ahead to pick up the items from the church, located at 16500 state Route 400 in Unionville. The church accepts food and clothing donations to give away to those in need. Food bank

Lovelock Community Food Bank is serving at 655 Cornell starting at 3:30 p.m. and will close at the discretion of the Food Bank. Everyone can receive free bread and dairy products, but a voucher will be needed in order to receive food. This can be obtained at the county clerk's office.

Lovelock Speedway meeting

November - March, general meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 p.m. April - October general meetings held the Thursday prior to each scheduled race. Lovelock Speedway is seeking volunteers for various positions.
