Veterans Outreach

A  Rural Veterans Service Officer (RVSO)  will be in Lovelock July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Pershing County Community Center. Veterans, military personnel and family members will be able to meet with a representative of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) to learn about benefits and services they may be eligible for but unaware of. Appointments are encouraged, as many outreach events have been filling up.  Walk-in appointments are welcome, but will be seen if time permits. To schedule an advanced appointment, contact Pamela (775) 688-1653 ext. 6.   Veterans are advised to bring a copy of their DD-214 discharge document and/or current VA paperwork.   If the claim involves dependents, bring birth certificates, current and prior marriage certificates, divorce decrees, and social security numbers.

Night Fun Shoot

The Flying Saucer Trap Club will be hosting a series of "Summer Night League Shoots" starting on Friday, July 12 and continuing every other Friday until Aug. 23.  The shoots will be held at the trapshooting range located at 1550 Airport Rd. Lovelock, NV.  Registration and practice begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by meat shoots at 6 p.m. and then a "Blind Draw Buddy Shoot" will begin after sunset to wrap up the evening.   Everyone is invited, so come out for some fun competition between friends. Imlay Volunteer Fire Department Street Dance

Noon to 10 p.m. - This is a fundraiser for the IVFD. Daytime activities-Horseshoe Tournament, Dunk tank, Kids games, Kiddie pools, Bingo, Karaoke, Bake sale. Evening activities start at 6p.m. dancing to the Hired Gunnz band, auction, raffle for quarter side of beef. Hamburgers and hot dogs and cold refreshments will be sold.



July 14

Opening reception for art exhibit

The Star Peak Arts Retreat Center of Imlay invites the public to attend an opening party for the exhibit by featured artist Carolyn Baker. The party will be held on Sunday, July 14 from 2 - 4 p.m. The exhibit continues through July 28 (closed Mondays).

4-H Camp

4-H camp is open to all youth between the ages of 9 and 13 4-H age (your age in Jan. 2013).  They spend a week at the 4-H Camp at Lake Tahoe making new friends, enjoying the great outdoors, participating in fun activities and the food is great.  Applications are available at the Pershing County Extension Office, 810 Sixth Street.  The fee is $230 until June 1, ($280 after June 1). Call 273-2923 for more information.

Town Hall Meeting

There is a Town Hall Meeting scheduled for July 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pershing County Community Center.  The address is 820 6th Street, Lovelock, NV 89419 (across the street from the hospital.) Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and her staff will be present to discuss fraud, new legislation and have a question and answer period.  Additionally, Coeur Rochester will give a presentation in regards to their mine expansion.  Refreshments will be provided.

Vacation Bible School at Sonoma Baptist Church

Children are invited to attend Vacation Bible School at Sonoma Baptist Church beginning Monday, July 15 and ending Friday, July 19. School begins at 9 a.m., and concludes at noon on Friday, at which time there will be a barbecue to include parents of children attending. Classes are four finished Kindergarten through finished sixth grade. Sonoma Baptist Church is located at 5970 Muddy Road. Donate blood in Fallon

In midsummer, United Blood Services can really feel the heat.  When patients need blood, but the supply is low, the pressure mounts quickly. It's especially challenging this time of year as the summer blood supply dries up with donors head for vacations and fun in the sun, so new donors are always needed. Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank

The Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank currently has donated food available for those in need. Pastor D.W. Hutson asks that you call ahead to pick up the items from the church, located at 16500 state Route 400 in Unionville. The church accepts food and clothing donations to give away to those in need. Daily masses are held at St. John the Baptist Church on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the Father Vieages Room in the Annex.

Food bank

Lovelock Community Food Bank is serving at 655 Cornell starting at 3:30 p.m. and will close at the discretion of the Food Bank. Everyone can receive free bread and dairy products, but a voucher will be needed in order to receive food. This can be obtained at the county clerk's office.

Lovelock Speedway meeting

November - March, general meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 p.m. April - October general meetings held the Thursday prior to each scheduled race. Lovelock Speedway is seeking volunteers for various positions. Each Friday - Classes formally at Creekside Variety are now being held in the Community Center across from the hospital. Fridays, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Free sewing and craft classes for kids ages 6 and up. Sewing machines and materials are free as are the classes. For information call the Community Center at 273-7144.
