Summer Reading Program underway

The Summer Reading Program is a free six week program held on Mondays at the Pershing County Library. Each one hour session will include a craft project, incentives and a snack. The theme this year is Dig into Reading. The Summer Reading Program is designed for independent readers ages 7 and older to encourage leisure reading during the summer months. Aug. 9

Night Fun Shoot

The Flying Saucer Trap Club will be hosting a series of "Summer Night League Shoots" at the trapshooting range located at 1550 Airport Rd. Lovelock. Registration and practice begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by meat shoots at 6 p.m. and then a "Blind Draw Buddy Shoot" will begin after sunset to wrap up the evening. Aug. 11

Pershing County 4-H Family Fun Day at 4-H Camp

4-H families and friends are invited to a day of fun and celebration at the 4-H Camp at Lake Tahoe.  Good visiting and good food!  Fun activities, with swimming from 1-5 p.m. - or bring your lawn chair and just relax.  This is also Marianne's retirement party. Sunday Aug. 11 at the 4-H Camp Lake Tahoe from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.  Fees: Adults - $20, 6-18 year olds - $12 and children under 6 are free. Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank

The Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank currently has donated food available for those in need. Pastor D.W. Hutson asks that you call ahead to pick up the items from the church, located at 16500 state Route 400 in Unionville. The church accepts food and clothing donations to give away to those in need. Fallon Naval Sea Cadets

Fallon Naval Sea Cadets is a non-profit youth program designed to educate youth from ages 11-17 about the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Education includes military bearing, marching, physical training, courtesy, responsibility and much more. Many opportunities are available for advanced training. Meetings are one weekend a month at the Naval Air Station in Fallon. Volunteers, both ex-military and civilian, are needed for instructors and chaperones. For information on

Lovelock Speedway meeting

November - March, general meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 p.m. April - October general meetings held the Thursday prior to each scheduled race.
