Hunter Education - A Hunter Education course will be offered March 13, 14 & 15 at the Pershing County Community Center. Class times will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. until finished. Students must successfully complete an approved hunting education course before purchasing a Nevada hunting license and must complete all three sessions to become eligible. A class workbook must be completed prior to attending class. This workbook generally requires eight hours of home study to complete. Workbooks are available at Bigh R and Powder House. The class fee is $5 per person. New this year, you must register for class online. You can go to www.ndow.org to register. Lions Club/Altar Society Corn Beef and Cabbage Dinner - 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Catholic Hall; $10.00 per ticket presale; $12.00 per ticket at the door.
Lovelock Frontier Days Scholarships
Frontier Days Scholarship Applications Due April 1 - Each year Lovelock Frontier Days gives up to 4 scholarships to high school seniors. Our scholarship emphasizes community service, particularly for Lovelock Frontier Days. Scholarships will be based on volunteering for Lovelock Frontier Days (1 point for each volunteer hour), application (possible 100 points) and interview (possible 100 points). Criteria on which the applications are judged: civic activities and other community service (20 pts), extracurricular activities (10 pts), financial need and personal employment (30 pts), GPA (10 pts), letter of recommendation from a teacher, letter from an employer or volunteer supervisor, and a letter from a personal acquaintance (3x5 pts), and thought and time spent on application (10 pts) for a total of 100 points. Submit a cover page with your PCHS Scholarship Application and 3 letters of recommendation to your high school counselor or LFD committee member Marianne Papa (273-1417) by April 1.
Spring League Shoot
The Flying Saucer Trap Club is looking for teams to sign-up for the Spring Trap Shooting League. The league will start on Saturday March 8, 2014 at the trapshooting range located at 1550 Airport Rd. Lovelock, NV. The shoots will be held on the following alternating Saturdays for five shoots. Teams consist of five members and awards will be given for the weekly high gun for both the A-league and B-league. In addition, awards will be presented to the "High Overall Men's Shooter" for both A and B Leagues, "High Overall Ladies Shooter", and the first and second place teams in both A and B Leagues will receive awards.
Any shooter under the age of 15 years old is welcome to participate. All youth shooters will receive free shell and free targets. Youth awards will be presented weekly to the high shooter.

Pershing County Senior Center
The Pershing County Senior Center is in need of volunteers. We are looking for more high energy volunteers who can work at least once a week for a few hours. If you are interested in helping others, and have free time once a week during lunch, or have to do some volunteer hours for work, we would love to have you! Please come by the Center any time between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm or call 273-2291 and talk to Stephanie Wenzel.
Pershing County Resource Center
The Pershing County Business Resource Center is now open. It is located at the Pershing County Community Center, Star Room, 820 6thStreet, Lovelock, NV 89419. The center has 4 computers for free use by persons ages 17 and older for business, job, and educational purposes. The Star Room is also used as a classroom, so a calendar of availability can be found at www.pershingcounty.net. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Call 273-7144 for more information.

PGH needs volunteers
The Pershing General Hospital Nursing Home is in need of volunteers to spend time with nursing home residents, one on one visits and group activities. We also need donations of dollar store items for our Bingo Store. They win gold coins during bingo and bi monthly we set up a bingo store in the facility and let them shop. Pershing County Library
The Pershing County Library is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Story hour Tuesdays with preschoolers (older than 3) from 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. The library is located at 1125 Central Ave. For more information call 273-2216.

Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank
The Church of the Good Shepherd Food Bank currently has donated food available for those in need. Pastor D.W. Hutson asks that you call ahead to pick up the items from the church, located at 16500 state Route 400 in Unionville. The church accepts food and clothing donations to give away to those in need. Fallon Naval Sea Cadets
Fallon Naval Sea Cadets is a non-profit youth program designed to educate youth from ages 11-17 about the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Education includes military bearing, marching, physical training, courtesy, responsibility and much more. Many opportunities are available for advanced training. Lovelock Community Food Bank is serving at 655 Cornell starting at 3:30 p.m. and will close at the discretion of the Food Bank. Everyone can receive free bread and dairy products, but a voucher will be needed in order to receive food. This can be obtained at the county clerk's office.

Story Hour at the Library
Pershing County Library presents Story Hour every Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. starting on Sept. 10. Children's interest in reading will be nurtured by listening to books being read and activities with music and games. Children must be at least three years old to participate.
