    Everything will be coming up roses at the Battle Mountain Cookhouse Museum during April and May, and not just roses, but tulips and peonies as well in Sarah Burkhart's colorful floral designs.

    For the second year in a row, Lander County has successfully petitioned the State of Nevada Department of Taxation for a waiver from the removal of the county from the guaranteed status under the Supplemental City-County Relief Tax (SCCRT) distribution formula.

    According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, an NDOT crew was working on the shoulder of Interstate 80 between Battle Mountain and Winnemucca on Monday. Nevada Department of Transportation worker Ronald Paul Raiche, Jr., age 47, was struck by a commercial vehicle driven by Mario Alfonso Calzada, of Mexico. Raiche was pronounced dead on scene. Calzada was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, due care and no valid commercial driver's license.

    A cooperative state "fire insurance" program through the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) has worked well, and Lander County commissioners signed on for an additional two years, at $150,000 per year not to exceed $300,000 over that time period.
