In the story "Pine Forest Bill ready for hand-off" that appeared in the Jan. 23 - 26 edition of the Sun, the seventh paragraph on page 12 should have stated:

Congress gave the BLM five years to complete work on the land exchanges. "There's an awful lot riding on these," said Jeffress. "People are interested; this could potentially become recovery water for Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. Grazing and recreational uses would continue with the same standards of management."

    The Sun regrets the error.

Sun staff members got a kick out of the curious cow who posed for the photo on page 28 of the Nov. 25 edition of the Sun (Bovine Beauty), who they affectionately named "Bessie." Jean Kinney of Winnemucca was amused to see her cow in the newspaper and even called in to give us her actual name - Reba, after singer Reba McEntire. Reba, 6 years old, is a Hereford-Angus mix. The Sun thanks Reba for being so photogenic!

In last Friday's Humboldt Sun, in the Paradise Valley Candidates article, we incorrectly paraphrased Humboldt County Commissioner candidate Jim White as saying living in Winnemucca excludes him from participating in countywide activities. It should have read as follows: White said living in Winnemucca does not exclude him from participating in countywide activities. Our reporter regrets the error.

Correction to Humboldt Sun article (Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 edition):
The Humboldt Sun article on hospital purchases ("Hospital board authorizes close to $850,000 in purchases") included information on the contract for installation of the medical and health care services modular clinic building. The $98,532 contract awarded to U.S. Modular group was for installation only. The building purchase had been approved previously.
    The Sun regrets the error.

Addressing the issue of how much water is used in the fracking process, Perry said the three wells in Nevada which have used fracking to stimulate oil production have used 250,000 346,000 and 209,000 gallons of water each. For comparison, a domestic well is 2 acre-feet of water a year - a typical irrigation pivot uses 400-600 acre-feet a year. (an acre-foot of water is equivalent to 326,700 gallons) Any application to use water in fracking has to go through the same water rights application and allocation process as any other use.
