  • Members of Congress need to spend more time on Capitol Hill
    Tuesday, December 01, 2015 1:00 AM
When Paul Ryan became House Speaker a few weeks ago, he made it clear that he has no intention of spending too much time in Washington. His wife and children are in Wisconsin, he pointed out, and he plans to commute, as he’s done since he got elected to Congress. “I just work here,” he told CNN, “I don’t live here.”
  • We’re thankful a Commerce Tax Referendum is moving forward
    Tuesday, December 01, 2015 1:00 AM
We’re thankful that the widely despised Commerce Tax is moving toward a Nevada voter referendum.
  • Age of offense reaches new low
    Tuesday, December 01, 2015 1:00 AM
Growing up in a world where irony and humor are practically banned by governmental fiat is a dangerous thing. It turns healthy human beings into all-purpose victims. I can’t really just blame kids for being narcissistic twinkles. Someone, my generation in fact, had to raise them to be so thin-skinned they could rent themselves out as mucous membranes.
  • A wake-up call, immigration policy
    Friday, November 27, 2015 1:00 AM
The recent attacks on France by the Islamic terrorist organization ISIS should be a wake-up call for the United States to reconsider all of the conversations we have had since 9-11 about immigration and make some necessary adjustments to our national dialog; especially how charity, trust, national defense and our national interest should influence our immigration policy.
  • Shelter from the cold
    Thursday, November 26, 2015 1:00 AM
November has arrived. It has brought with it cold wind, rain and snow. It seems as though the weather is following a prepared script. It is time for the trees to go bare, the sky to darken and the world to grow cold. Rust-colored leaves litter the ground and scatter all about with the chilly winds. Winter has abruptly arrived.
  • A trip to the wagon
    Thursday, November 26, 2015 1:00 AM
LINDEN, Texas — You cannot even imagine what a blessing “a trip to the wagon” was for a young’un back in the good old days when times were bad.
  • A grateful individual
    Wednesday, November 25, 2015 1:00 AM
In a family of eight, I was born and raised on a farm in the Midwest. My youngest sister passed away in August.
  • A sale tale
    Wednesday, November 25, 2015 1:00 AM
Being this close to Thanksgiving and the wonderment of that most basic of all days, Black Friday, I thought that maybe some shopping tales might be appropriate.
  • Let’s make a deal
    Tuesday, November 24, 2015 1:00 AM
A while back Paradise Valley citizens were ‘up in arms’ and it was noted that: “they are always upset about something!”. Well! They are right! We are hardworking, take no guff and are getting by in a Nevada desert with our sunburned faces that is one of the last bastions in the lower forty eight that still respects individuality.
  • A world in mourning
    Monday, November 23, 2015 1:00 AM
Recently we have been saddened by a world in mourning. Our flags have flown at half-mast to pay tribute to those who were injured or died in Paris. It is hard for me to put my head around this tragedy as I truly believe in the value of each and every person.
