The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has received a $55,500 Joining Forces grant for the next year from the Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety.

The grant supports law enforcement’s participation in Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020. The grant will allow HCSO to pair with other agencies for enforcement events to promote traffic safety.

Joining Forces is a highly visibility, multi-jurisdictional statewide effort to increase safety on Nevada’s roads by increasing enforcement and awareness of traffic laws.

Nevada’s Joining Forces program was initiated in 2001. The goals of the joining forces program are to improve safe driving habits, increase traffic enforcement efforts and reduce the number of crashes and fatalities.

The Department of Public Safety reports that grant funding eligibility for each agency is determined with consideration for the previous year’s performance.

“The goal is to reduce crashes and save lives by focusing on impaired driving, distracted driving, seat belt use, speed, and pedestrian safety,” Nevada DPS said in a press release.
