Christmas this year brought the delight of Judy Dahl’s musical children. We were serenaded by the children playing solos on the piano for us. Later we were invited to sing with the children if we wished. We tried to sing our best.

We were also entertained by “The High Desert Education” and their singing group. A special thanks to all for the Christmas cheer they brought to all. A few days later, Ben played a medley of dongs for everyone. He is very talented.

Dayna Jim decorated the Christmas tree, about 11 feet tall, full of Disney characters. It was very special as she made many of the decorations. I am glad it is still up and not put away for the year.

A surprise was planned for Hellen Thompson, as she was picked “Senior of the Year” and awarded a beautiful clock and plaque. Emeral and Gary Campbell with Colton and Cal came to help her celebrate. Migon Hiley gave a very nice presentation of the awards.

Christmas dinner was served with ham and all the trimmings and apple pie for desert. I truly enjoyed all that came to share this special dinner at the center from town. Our raffle winners were selected with the help of Jerry LaMiaux, Migon Hiley and Sondra Michelson.

The vets that attended our dinner were Larry Sweeney (Four years Navy), Kip Michelson (four years USMC), Sara Edgar, Gary Burkhart (Navy), Christina Kunce (20+ Navy), Sondra Michelson (3+  Navy) and Marlys Barrett (Army and Air Force as a nurse). Not present was John Winnepenninkx (four years Navy as an airplane mechanic). I have wanted to get a picture of our vets that come to our senior center for a while. I would like them to know that their time and expertise in the service was appreciated very much.

Tonia Baker has tried to get some involved in more activities like games, puzzles, movies and cards. Everyone likes to eat, visit and play bingo. Some tried the recipe in the Jan. 4 newspaper of the Jalapeno Sweet Potato Chowder. Their spouses said it was excellent.

Hope all stay well this year.
