The Pershing County Mustangs and Yerington Lions slugged it out in a close contest on Joe Yanni Field on Friday. 
The Mustangs were determined to send off 11 young men in a blaze of glory. It was senior night at PCHS and a season closer for both teams.
The Lions and Mustangs have combined to win every 2A state title since 2010. 
  • Pershing County soccer team closes out season

    The Pershing County High School soccer team played three games this past week. 
    On Wednesday, April 7, they hosted Incline, losing 0-4. Friday, they beat visiting West Wendover (5-0).
    Finally, on Saturday, they lost to Whittell on the road 8-0. 
  • Lowry knocks off Elko in season finale

    The 2021 spring season for the Lowry High School football team began with a match-up against rival Elko and concluded with a second meeting with the Indians.
    For the Buckaroos, both games ended in victory. Lowry traveled to Elko last Friday night for a 3A East playoff game and came back to Winnemucca with a 32-22 win and 3-3 record in the shortened six-week season.

    The Battle Mountain High School football team saw its schedule change in the final week of the season, with a trip to Dayton instead of Reno.
    The Longhorns were originally scheduled to play Coral Academy at Wooster High School this past Saturday, but that game was canceled and the Longhorns took on Dayton instead.

  • Pershing County volleyball team ends season with back-to-back wins

    The Pershing County volleyball team wrapped up its 2021 season this past week. On Tuesday, April.6, they hosted Coral Academy, beating them 25-13, 25-7 and 25-8. 
    On Friday, April 9, Pershing stayed home to play Incline for senior night, coming out on top again 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20. The Mustangs won both games in three sets each.
  • Elko defeats Lowry girls in a 3A East playoff match-up

    The Lowry High School girls soccer team made its way to Adobe Middle School for the second time in less that a week when it played Elko in a 3A East, third-place playoff game on Wednesday, April 7.
  • Lowry girls golfers win 3A East title

    The Lowry High School girls golf team claimed the 3A East title with its win in Elko on Monday, April 5.
    Lowry shot a season-best 395 in the season finale at Ruby View Golf Course. Elko was second at 404 and Spring Creek (428) was third. 
    Churchill County, Fernley and Dayton did not record a team score.

    The Lowry High School volleyball team wrapped up its six-week spring season last Friday night in Fallon against Churchill County.
     The match-up was a 3A playoff contest, just a week after the two teams played in Winnemucca to end the regular season.
    The two squads won on each others home floor this season.
  • Kuskie finishes second at 3A Regional Championships

    The shortened six-week season for the Lowry High School cross country came to end this past Saturday at the Northern 3A Regional Championships Saturday at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks.
  • Elko knocks off Lowry in double OT

    The Lowry High School boys soccer team did not have the best of luck against Elko during the regular season in the 3A East this spring.
    The Indians swept the Buckaroos in both matches by a combined score of 8-0, including a 6-0 victory in Winnemucca on Wednesday, March 31.
    Two of Lowry’s three losses in league play were to Elko and the two rivals closed out the season on Wednesday, April 7, at Adobe Middle School. 
    At stake was the 3A East title. The two teams did not disappoint as it took longer than the regular 80 minutes to complete. In fact, the match went into double overtime, with the Indians’ scoring the game winner with one minute left in double overtime to claim a  2-1 victory.
