With saddles blazing, the Northern Nevada Gymkhana Club completed its third season this past summer.

Some of its riders have branched out from Lovelock’s rodeo grounds to compete near and far — and they’re bringing home buckles, saddles and lifetime memories.

The Gem State Rodeos, headquartered in Idaho, named Myles Macedo, 5, the Rookie of the Year. He’s earned 12 buckles so far this year in Idaho, Oregon and Nevada.

Along the way, Macedo won the Valley Wide Cooperative All-Around Youth Championship saddle in the Buhl Youth Rodeo. The kindergartener has been riding solo since he was three.

The Macedo family values one of Myles’s prizes above all others. He won the Outstanding Character Buckle at the Elko Youth Rodeo in memory of Jake Eary (2001-2010).

Rhea Fenner, 9, recently won the all-around saddle at the Fallon Lions Club Junior Rodeo. She was also the first-attendant in the rodeo queen contest.

Fenner earned first-place finishes in team roping and run, ride and lead. She finished second in barrels, figure eight and steer daubing and third in poles.

Rori Fenner, 7, will barrel race in the Junior World Finals in Las Vegas this December. She hopes to win the championship. Ever stylish, she’s also going for the best dressed.

The NNGC will hold its annual awards banquet on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the community center. It begins at 1 p.m.
