The PCHS Spirit Squad learned over 50 cheers and dances this year, but even they can’t be two places at the same time.

Faced with a choice between basketball and cheerleading, Kyria Angel and Kaylah Hanley opt to play basketball this winter.

“We’re looking forward to cheering them on to victory,” said cheer coach Cece Thornhill.

Last Tuesday was sports awards night at Pershing County High School. Principal Jonathan Reynolds hosted.

Parents and well-wishers packed the auditorium.

Thornhill and Jackie Chandler called the 2021 Spirit Squad onstage.

This past season’s team consisted mostly of juniors with a couple of sophomores and one freshman.

Traditionally,  a senior leads as captain. But, this year Lupita Lopez, a junior, handled the job. Kayla Hanley, a sophomore, was the co-captain.

Marya Burke, Brooklyn Mitchell, Angel and Lopez are juniors. Hanley and Jena Pilon are sophomores. Briahna Wilcox is the squad’s only freshman.

Soon, Kyria Angel and Kaylah Hanley will shoot for the Mustangs.

The other girls will pump up the crowd like only the PCHS Spirit Squad can.
