The battle for the top spot in the Northern 1A East was at stake this past Friday night, as the McDermitt High School girls basketball team traveled to Eureka, as both teams entered the contest undefeated in league play.

It looked like the Lady Bulldogs would leave Eureka with the all-important win, but the Vandals pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 15-4 run to win 50-40.

Eureka improved to 5-0 in the Northern 1A East and 12-1 overall. The Vandals’ only loss was to Pyramid Lake.

McDermitt is 4-1 in league play at 14-4 overall.

Eureka led 14-9 after eight minutes of play, but that advantage was erased, as McDermitt came back with a 14-10 run in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 24-23 at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs led 36-35 after the third quarter, when the Vandals made their run in the final eight minutes of play.

McDermitt travels to Owyhee on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. tip and will be in Carlin on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. start.

The Lady Bulldogs host Eureka on Friday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m.
